Today's Tonic: Words Matter

“Choose the positive. You have a choice. You are the master of your attitude. Choose the positive, the constructive.”

~ Bruce Lee

When I searched in Google for “phrases you shouldn’t say”, I received a smorgasbord of things not to say to avoid offending people.

But that’s not what I’m talking about.

(actually, we should just be less sensitive)

What I’m talking about is the WORDS YOU SAY TO YOURSELF.

…In your head.

They matter. A freaking lot.

This Week’s Riddle

Throw away the outside and cook the inside, then eat the outside and throw away the inside. What is it?

This Week’s Journaling Prompt

Identify one specific negative self-talk phrase you frequently use in your thoughts. Describe a situation where this phrase tends to surface. Then rewrite this phrase into a positive, constructive affirmation.

This Week’s Challenge

Choose an affirmation statement for yourself. Make your affirmations visible. This could be through daily reminders on your phone, post-it notes in places you often look (like your bathroom mirror or computer monitor), or a background image on your desktop or phone. For one week at least, spend a few minutes each morning and evening repeating your affirmations. Say them out loud, if possible.
