The Holidays Are Easy

But what about right now?

The Daily Habit For Doers

“Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time — past and future — the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.”

- Eckhart Tolle

Presence is easy during the holidays.

But what about right now?

Are you present with your kids when they get home from school?

Do you make time to listen to your friends?

How often do you talk to your loved ones?

It’s easy to be available when it’s exciting — in Disneyland… newly married… just got a promotion…

But your character reveals itself when it’s NOT exciting. Today. Yesterday. Tomorrow.

The normal days.

Are you present with the people you love? With the things you care about?...

…when it’s not exciting?

This Week’s Riddle

The more of them you take, the more you leave behind. What are they?

This Week’s Journaling Prompt

Reflect on a recent ordinary day. How did you engage with the people you care about? Describe specific moments where you were fully present or, conversely, distracted. What were the consequences of your level of presence on your relationships and feelings?

This Week’s Challenge

Set aside a "Presence Hour" each day for a week. During this hour, fully engage with someone you care about or an activity that matters to you, without any digital distractions. Keep a brief journal of these experiences, noting your feelings, the quality of your interactions, and any changes in your relationships or personal well-being. Reflect on these observations at the end of the week.
