Todayās Tonic: The Anti-Goal
āOne part at a time, one day at a time, we can accomplish any goal we set for ourselves.ā ā Karen Casey
Most of the time we set goals based on a specific thing we want.
We want an amount of moneyā¦
We want to acquire a skillā¦
We want to be healthier in an area of our lifeā¦
Being concrete with our goals is crucial.
But sometimes we can set goals so big they end up taking over our lives and destroying the motivation we have for them.
Hereās where the āanti-goalā comes in.
If you want an amount of moneyā¦set an anti-goal never to work more than 4-5 hours a day.
If you want to master a skillā¦set an anti-goal to spend no more than 15 minutes on it a day.
If you want to be healthierā¦set an anti-goal to obsess over no more than 1 healthy meal a day.
The anti-goal is where you draw the line.
Itās about saying: āIām going to work towards this thing, but Iām not going to let it consume me.ā
At its core, the anti-goal is about making success manageable.
Set healthy boundaries with an āanti-goalā and youāll find yourself able to keep up your motivation for way longer than you expected.
